This page explains who owns what on All About Drinks, what you may reuse without asking, and how to ask for anything more.
Ownership
Unless an individual credit says otherwise, all text, original illustrations, graphics and the design of this site are © 2026 All About Drinks. The underlying facts of drinks history belong to everyone — copyright protects our particular expression of them: the writing, structure and presentation of each article. Trade marks and brand names that appear in articles remain the property of their respective owners and are used only descriptively.
Quoting us — welcome, with attribution
We are an educational project and we want our work to be cited. You may quote short excerpts from our articles without asking permission, provided that you:
- keep the excerpt brief — a few sentences or a short paragraph, not substantial portions of an article;
- attribute the quotation to All About Drinks; and
- link to the specific page you quoted (for online use) or cite the page address (in print).
Teachers and students may reproduce reasonable extracts for classroom and coursework use with the same attribution. What is not permitted without written consent: republishing whole articles or substantial parts of them, scraping the site for republication or dataset-building, translating entire articles for publication elsewhere, or presenting our work as your own — see our Terms of Use.
Images
Images on this site fall into three groups: original images we created (© All About Drinks); images used under open licences such as Creative Commons, which carry the attribution and licence notice their terms require; and images used with the rights holder's specific permission. Under our Editorial Policy, every image must have a rights record — source, licence, required credit — before it is published. Note that our permission to use a third-party or openly licensed image does not transfer to you: check the image's own credit line and licence before reusing it, and clear it with its rights holder, not with us.
Requesting reuse
Want to reuse more than a short excerpt — an article in a newsletter, a translation, an image we created, content in teaching materials at scale? Email hello@allaboutdrinks.xyz with what you would like to use, where it will appear, and whether the use is commercial. We answer every reasonable request, and for genuinely educational, non-commercial uses the answer is usually yes, free of charge, with attribution.
How we credit others
We hold ourselves to the standard we ask of others. Every article lists its sources in a "Sources & further reading" section; direct quotations in our text are attributed to their authors; open-licence images carry the credit and licence their terms require; and commissioned or permission-based images are credited as agreed with the rights holder. If we have failed to credit you properly, tell us and we will fix it promptly under our Corrections Policy.
If you believe we have infringed your rights
If you are a rights holder and believe material on this site uses your work without permission, please use the process on our Takedown Requests page. We take such notices seriously and act on them quickly.
